O Lord Jesus Christ, whose prayer for Your disciples
(John 13:1)
On the eve of the day on which You suffered and died for all mankind,
(2 Corinthians 5:15; 1 Timothy 2:6)
Was that they might be one as You and Your Father are one,
(John 17:20-23)
Remove, we beseech You, the barriers,
(Mark 11:22-24)
Unshakeable by us, which hold apart those who bear the Christian name,
(Acts 2:38; 2 Timothy 2:19)
So that there shall be one fold and one Shepherd,
(John 10:16)
One faith,
(Ephesians 4:5)
One ardent Christendom
(1 Corinthians. 1:10)
Whose prayer of spirit and of truth shall be resistless
(John 4:23-24; 14:13-14)
And shall avail to win:
(Matthew 17:20; 21:21-22)
Light for all who sit in the darkness of paganism
(Matthew 4:16)
And in the deadlier shadows of light rejected and of militant unbelief,
(John 3:19-20; Luke 20:17)
Good mooring for the doubt-wracked
(Matthew 14:31)
And for those tossed to and fro by the winds of shifting doctrine,
(Ephesians 4:14)
Liberty for all who wither and dwindle in the dire captivity of sin,
(John 15:6-7; Romans 6:22; 7:23-25)
New Pentecostal grace from Heaven
(Acts 2:1-4)
Which will dissolve the hatreds, the injustices and the spirit of the world,
(John 15:18-19; 1 Corinthians 2:12)
And which will melt all hearts
(Romans 12:15)
And make them one in You
(Romans 5:5)
Who are the Way and the Truth and the Life,
(John 14:6)
That Divine Life
(2 Peter 1:2-4)
Wherein the unity of faith will be made perfect in glory
(Ephesians 4:13)
And love will abide eternally in love. Amen.
(John 12:23-24; 15:9)
